A friend recently asked the artist about his goal in life. With little hesitation he responded, "the journey is the goal." This hard won and sometimes neglected truth has found expression in this charming new image.
"If you can enjoy the things that really count," Steve Hanks reflects, "your day-to-day work, your children, your relationships with other people. . . then the destination takes care of itself. Some people work all their lives for a big house or other material things. In this painting, purposely, any trappings of worldly success are relegated to the background. Our children, especially at the beginning of their journey, is where our focus should be. If the details in our daily journey become the goal, then future rewards will flow with abundance."
